The mistake...

Every production will have their little mistakes...we had a few mix ups ourselves.

At first we had found an actress to play the part of 'Sara' in the music video and she had agreed to do it, but when the day of filming came she never turned up to the shoot, so in the end myself had to play the part of Sara and also be the producer.

The second mix up we had was, we all agreed on a street location for us to film on, but I made the mistake by giving out the call sheets a day before filming, and then people could not get to the chosen location. But then we agreed on another street for us to film on, where everyone can get to etc. But in future if I have the role of being the producer again, I will remember these things such as: Give the call sheets out few weeks before filming and also find an actor/actress who can make it and who will turn up to the shoot.

For a Call sheet the details you will need to put on there is:

• Contact details: Producers number and who's the director
• Going to: Address and Postcode so cast and crew know where they are going
• Going on: Date you are going to film, so they will know what day to turn up
• Time of meeting: Always important, so they will know what time to turn up
• How to get there: Directions to get to the location, otherwise people will get lost
• Facilities: Food places, shops etc to keep your cast and crew happy.

We then went to the 'Big Room' so we can film the band performance scene in the music video, this will be shown when you can hear Ben Folds or as shown in our music video 'Zak' singing and also the other instruments such as: Drums, Guitar and also the Piano (Keyboard in our video) all playing.

First location...

First Location...
As I am the Producer I had to then start phoning around and start looking for suitable locations for us to film in, our first location we have decided on was "The Big Room" in our college in Nantgarw. The room was a perfect choice for our shoot because we needed lights, and also a big spacious flooring area, we might also need use of the projector in the room for maybe a backround in the video?
For this scene, we will need a big spacious flooring area because, in this little part of the music video it's the part where Sara's mind starts wandering off and she starts imagining things to do with the song Zaks playing for her on the guitar, this is really the most important part of the video because in a way the song is about Sara imagining this song and the future.

The Idea!

We then had to listen to the Directors pitches where they will tell give us a pitch for each of the chosen music video's and we then each had to pick the best pitch which would match each music video.
Our music video's pitch was:

• At the beginning of the music video the title "Ben Folds - Zak and Sara" will come up on the screen.
• It will then start to go in to a split screen, where it will appear bit by bit, starting off with sara's lower body half, to her face, and also in the other half it goes in to Zak also starting off with lower body haf then then top half, where it shows them both dancing.
• Everytime on the song where it sings "La, da da it will be a Scott pilgrim type of thing where the writing comes out of his mouth/ speech bubble
• The song seems to be a happy type of song, so we would have a cheesyish type of video/comic book style (Scott pilgrim film)
• And then when the lyrics "And you're all working in a submarine" the camera zooms in on the window of the sumbarine and in the window is Zak there singing the "La, da ,da"
• We will also show Sara sitting on a big amp while Zak is there playing her favourite song, where her mind goes off imagining.

Film Producer

As I am a Producer for this music video I wanted to know exactly what a film producer really does, and also what I need to do to be successful for this role.
Well for a start I wanted to know what the producer does...The film producer is the only person who is involved in the making of the film, from the very start which would be the idea to the end which would be the delivery, they are also the person that makes things happen, they organize, protect and supervise the rest of the production crew.

For this Job I will need a pre production checklist which will include:
Log Sheets: Details of production shot by shot.
Release forms: Permission for you to film a person.
Directions to locations: So people know where it is.
Shooting Schedule: A plan of each shooting day for film.
Props List: A list of props used in production.
Location permits: Permission to film at certain locations.

I may also need:
Food and drink for the crew: It will be a very long day of filming and the actors could get bored or hungry throughout filming so a snack and drink will keep them happy.
Make up: For Actors/Actresses ready to go on set.
Costumes or wardrobe: Change of clothes for next scene.
Cue cards: For the crew members to know when to come on and off set
Weather check: You need to know the weather forcast otherwise you could have bad weather on the day of filming.
Calling of all participants to confirm places/times: You will need to get contact with the locations you have booked to see if you can go on that day to film and to see what time they would like for you to show up on the day.

At first we had to listen to a various choice of 10 different songs, where the producers would choose the song.

Ben Folds - Zak and Sara

 

 

The song "Zak and Sara" is about a young couple who are in a music shop, and Zak plays his girlfriend Saras favourite song on a guitar in the shop, and her mind wanders off where she dreams about her future and also a warm beautiful paradise. She apparently also see's world class DJ's and she begins to imagine the song Zak's playing in a remix in her mind. In the song there are lyrics about sara saying "Often Sara would have spells where she lost time, she saw the future." By this I think Ben Folds is showing that Sara's mind goes off and imagines the future basically and also what she thinks will happen, that it will be happy and cheerful place.

 

Who is Ben Folds?

Benjamin Scott "Ben" Folds was born September 12th 1966, Ben Folds is an American singer-songwriter and also a record producer. From 1995 to 2000 Ben folds was in an alternative rock band "Ben Folds Five." After the group had split up Ben then performed as a solo artist and has toured all over the world, but in 2011 they reunited and released the album "The sound of the life of the mind" They also went on tour in 2012.

 

Rockin' the Suburbs Album

Rockin' the Suburbs is an Alternative rock genre which was released on September 11th 2001, the song Rockin' the Suburbs was his first ever single to make the "Billboards Modern Rock Tracks charts in the song Zak and Sara he played the Piano, vocals, keyboard, drums, guitar and also bass guitar.

Music Video!

A Music Video is a short movie that represents a song on a television screen. Music video's mostely feautures the artist who recorded the song singing it on the screen.
The main purpose of a music video is to sell the song to thier audience and to also get a reaction from the song, so then it will leave you remembering the song.
A very good example of this is:
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Michael Jackson created a short film and showed off his other talents such as acting and also dancing. The video is approximately 13 minutes long, this was the
first music video really to be shown as a short film.
 
Some songs could also have their music video based on

a film and they are just advertising the film, to get more people to watch the film. For example Linkin park's song "New divide" was released as a single but then was recorded just for Michael Bays new film "Transformers Revenge of the fallen" On parts of their music video for new divide they show parts of the film, such as the Transformers and other parts of the film.
